Cabinet to meet once a fortnight?

(Colombo Lankapuvath) President Mahinda Rajapaksa began yesterday’s (28th) Cabinet meeting by making a suggestion about the Cabinet itself. His suggestion was that the Cabinet should meet twice a fortnight.   President Rajapaksa asked Secretary of theTreasury Sumith Abeysinghe to give his views about the idea.   “Yes sir, now we get quite a lot of Cabinet leaflets, about 80 per week. The Treasury simply doesn’t have time to look into every single one of them. So it would be quite convenient for the Cabinet to meet  once every two weeks” said Mr. Abeysinghe in reply to the President’s venture. Gunasekara in order to put a stop to put an end to injustices happening to children was discussed in the latest cabinet meeting. “70% of those in prison have not received their basic education. They’re put in prison for various reasons, and they get three meals a day and a roof to sleep under. But it is their children who go hungry” said Minister Gunasekara, reminding the cabinet that it is the prisoners’ children that suffer.
