“I invite all political parties to join the nation building process” - President

(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (25) stated that he can dissolve Parliament at any time after discussions with the United National Party (UNP) and other parties which helped elect him President, adding that such a dissolution would prevent the implementation of what he promised to the people at the last Presidential Election. “Implementation of what we promised to the people at the last Presidential Election including Constitutional change is of primary importance”, the President said.

(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - President Maithripala Sirisena emphasized the imperative need for empowering our children in every aspect to conquer the universe as there is high competition in every sector. The President, while recalling the progress made by Sri Lanka in economic, cultural and academic sectors said Sri Lanka has to go a long way when absorbing the new technology in the modern world.
“Foreigners not permitted to undertake Gem mining in the country” - President
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - “No nonnative will be allowed to attempt Gem mining in Sri Lanka”, President instructs to stop sand mining and transport of sand in Polonnaruwa from the 1st of February. President Maithripala Sirisena instructs the authorities not to let any nonnative or a foreign organization to strainer gemstone in Sri Lanka, and to reject such demands. He ordered the relevant authorities to submit a report after a concentrated study the likelihood of utilizing the sand asset of this zone in the near future.
Fuel prices reduced
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - The Government has decided to reduce the prices of fuel with effect from midnight yesterday (21). The decision came to light in a Cabinet meeting held yesterday under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Foreign Minister concludes two day visit to India
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - The Minister of External Affairs Mangala Samaraweera who was in New Delhi for a two day official visit on the invitation of the Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj concluded his visit successfully, Ministry of External Affairs stated issuing an official communiqué. This is the first foreign visit undertaken by Minister Mangala Samaraweera after assumption of office on 12th January, and reflects the priority attached by Sri Lanka towards enhanced relations with India.
“Your responsibility is to restore lost image of the Public Service” - President tells top bureaucrats
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - President Maithripala Sirisena advised the top public servants to set an example to restore the ruined image of the Public Service that was heavily eroded in recent years. After handing over letters of appointment to new Secretaries to Ministries at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (19), President Maithripala Sirisena said it is the responsibility of the new secretaries to ensure the pledge of good governance of the new administration is implemented in full.
National Security Council lifts travel restrictions in North
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - President Maithripala Sirisena ordered the lifting of travel restrictions for foreigners in the former war zone in North and also removed an embargo on transporting goods.
