Newly built Library complex of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya to be opened
(Colombo-Lankapuvath) The new Library complex of the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya will be opened tomorrow (05) under the patronage of Education Minister BandulaGunawardena.
The new Library complex includes a fully equipped and computerized library unit with junior and senior sections containing a large number of valuable books.
Minister of External Affairs to visit the Czech Republic
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - Prof. G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs will visit the Czech Republic on the invitation of Karel Schwarzenberg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic from 26th to 30th March 2011.
This is the first high-level visit from Sri Lanka to the Czech Republic in recent years.
During the official visit, the Minister of External Affairs will meet with Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, Karel Schwarzenberg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Martin Kocourek, Minister of Industry and Trade, Miroslav Kalousek, Minister of Finance, Jiri Sedivy, First Deputy Minister of Defence, and Mrs. Miroslava Nemcova, Chairwoman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament. He will also have an interaction with the Inter-parliamentary Group of Friends of Sri Lanka.
The Minister of External Affairs will address the Czech-Sri Lanka Investment Forum at the International Chamber of Commerce to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation in Sri Lanka and the Czech Republic. Representatives of the Czech Business and Investment Sectors will be present at this Forum. During the visit, the Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka and the Czech Minister of Finance will sign an Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investment between Sri Lanka and the Czech Republic.
President orders to continue Japan - Sri Lanka flights
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - President Mahinda Rajapakse instructed the national carrier, Sri Lankan Airlines to continue air travels between Japan and Sri Lanka continuously.
Several countries suspended their air transport with Japan in the wake of the series of catastrophes that occurred recently.
Pathway to Decent Work for Women

It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. This year marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. The UN theme for International Women’s Day 2011 is ‘Equal Access to Education, Training, Science and Technology: Pathway to Decent Work for Women’.
Czech assistance for solid waste management
(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - The Czech Republic will be assisting Sri Lanka in solid waste management.
The agreement has been reached when the Czech Ambassador Miloslav Stasek called on Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa at the Environmental Ministry.
They focused attention on launching a suitable project for Solid Waste Management. The Ambassador said that his country will assist the project.
