(Colombo, Lankapuvath, February 17) – India’s Home Minister P. Chidambaram has emphasised that the LTTE should lay down arms and surrender.
He said the situation in Sri Lanka would not have reached a grave stage in non-liberated areas had the LTTE used the 48 hour window period declared by the Government to permit civilians to move to safer areas.
Addressing a public meeting at Mylapore, Chennai, in the South Indian State he pointed-out that, "India cannot directly interfere in the war against the LTTE, as demanded by some, since the country had itself not held talks with militant outfits in the North-East and Kashmir, who had refused to give up arms.
"Before any possible dialogue for cession of hostilities the LTTE should give-up arms", Minister Chidambaram further asserted.
