Six killed in Road Accidents

(Colombo Lankapuvath)The Police Headquarters disclosed that six people were killed in road accidents in Medawachchiya, Tangalle, Kochchikade, Chillaw and Negombo.


A van heading towards Anuradhapura in the Vavuniya – Anuradhapura main road hit a civilian yesterday (26). The victim after admission to the Rembewa hospital succumbed to his injuries, Medawachchiya Police said.

Meanwhile, an accident took place when a three-wheeler hit a woman in the Tangalle – Tissamaharama main road at Vajirigiri Temple, Tangalle killing the 80 year old woman. She died after being admitted to the MataraHospital, police added.

A private bus heading towards Chillaw in the Colombo – Chillaw main road hit a van heading from the opposite direction at Daluwakotuwa. The wounded van driver after admission to the Negombo Hospital succumbed to injuries, Kochchikade Police noted.

Another accident in KochchikadeDankotuwa – Batapatwila road killed a cyclist when a motorbike hit the cyclist. The victim died after admission to the Negombo hospital.

Another motorbike hit a cyclist in the Chillaw – Kurunegala main road at Rambepitiya. The 30 year old wounded motorbike driver after admission to the Negombo hospital has succumbed to injuries.

Meanwhile another motorbike had hit a cyclist in the Negombo – Pamunugama main road killing the cyclist. Both after being admitted to the Negombo hospital were forwarded to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.
 
The Medawachchiya, Tangalle, Kochchikade, Chillaw and Negombo Police are conducting further investigations.
