(Colombo, Lankapuvath) - The 124th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championships, conducted by the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) and held at the Victoria Golf Club turned out to be memorable for the 30 year old stylish, N Thangarajah, of Sri Lanka, when he triumphed over the others to win the 2011 title.

In doing so he emulated his compatriots, K Prabhagaran and Mithun Perera, who won the titles in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Thus accounting for 3 successive years.

There were around 45 golfers in the fray, drawn of contenders from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

India's reigning amateur champion S Chikkarangappa, as the rounds progressed, was the closest rival to Sri Lanka's newcomer, N Thangarajah.

The Sri Lankan did, well to beat Chikkarangappa, who was India's amateur champion for two years.

Thangarajah did well in the fourth round on the final day to have a two under par 71, whilst Chikkarangappa had one over par 74.

The final scores were N Thangarajah (73+73+72+71) 289 three under par S Chikkarangappa (79+72+67+74) 292 on par, Thangarajah, becoming Sri Lanka's Amateur Golf Champion with six years of golf behind him, was most commendable, that took many aback, with much surprise.
