(Colombo Lankapuvath) Minister of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa invites the public to see the Hambanthota Harbour which is currently under construction, saying that the programme to flood it with water will commence on the 15th of August.

The Minister said that anyone wishing to see a harbour without its water could come by to have a look before the 15th.

“If people go there after the 15th, they will never again get the chance of seeing a harbour minus the water in their lifetime. If you come before the 15th, you’ll get to see the harbour without water. If you come after, you’ll see it with water. If you happen to come on the 15th you’ll be able to see the harbour being flooded with water” he said.

Accordingly, the ship entrance is scheduled to be opened on the 15th of August in order to flood the harbour. The first ship is expected to enter the Hambanthota harbour by November this year.

When finished, the harbour will facilitate the handling of cement and fertilizers, and also the storage of fuel and gas.
