(Colombo Lankapuvath) The person who set fire on himself before the Sirikotha United National Party (UNP) Headquarters has died. The Colombo General Hospital reported that he passed away yesterday (26th).

The 60-year-old Mr. Algama, who set fire on himself yesterday evening in front of the Sirikotha Mansion was rushed soon afterwards to the South Colombo Teaching Hospital and owing to the seriousness of his condition was transferred to the Colombo General Hospital last night.

Eye witnesses say that Mr. Algama’s actions were done against the reforms taking place within the UNP. They say that he proclaimed that Ranil Wickremasinghe should not be ousted from the Party leadership, before setting fire on himself. The Acting Leader of the Opposition Karu Jayasuriya said that Mr. Algama was a strong supporter of the UNP, and UNP MP Lakshman Seneviratne said that he was deeply said about Mr. Algama’s death and this sort of thing should not happen.

UNP MP Sajith Premadasa also commented on this, saying that he is deeply unsettled about Mr. Algama’s death, and that Mr. Algama’s actions were his and his alone.

The Mirihana Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
