(Colombo Lankapuvath) The Chinese Government extends their support in the ongoing removal of landmines from areas in the North-Eastern provinces.
A Specialist team, which included members from the Chinese Military, arrived in Sri Lanka to observe the mine removal process, and have had primary talks with the officers of the National Programme for the Removal of Anti-Personnel Mines, which is under the Ministry of Economic Development.
The meeting took place under the direction of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, and the Ministry of Economic Development has taken steps to establish a National Mine Removal Campaign to assist in the matters.
The team from China arrived following an invitation from the Sri Lanka Government, and they plan to do a study on the landmine removing process in the North.
